There are many ways for you to get involved and support our work

About us

The Sabre Charitable Trust was set up to help schools and other institutions in West Africa with infrastructure improvements, resource supplies and staff training programmes. In addition to Schools, the SCT also provides support to the health and conservation sectors. Our programmes are targeted to support areas of weakness in the local education sector, particularly within kindergarten education and vocational training for young adults. Both areas are under financed and have only recently been recognised by the Ghanaian authorities as part of the formal education system.

The Sabre Charitable Trust is a small organisation, working at minimal cost to ensure that its help and assistance reaches those who need it most. The work of the Sabre Charitable Trust is complemented by other organisations, and supported by a growing number of schools in the UK.

Management

Currently the SCT is driven by the Trustees/Directors. Behind them is a volunteer network of professionals (some of whom we employ as and when required) in the UK and a huge variety people involved in Ghana. Links have been established between the SCT, local education authorities, various non-governmental bodies and the local Ghanaian communities and individuals, without whom none of what we do would be possible.

In the UK our Education Director is responsible for developing the education exchange programme between UK and Ghanaian schools and overseeing our literacy and vocational projects in Ghana; our Development Director is responsible for ensuring everything we do is done ethically, in the best interests of the communities we support, and in harmony with government and donor development plans; our Operations Director is responsible for the liaison between the various organisations involved, day-to-day management of the SCT and he also acts as the Expedition Director for our Ghana Project Expeditions.

In Ghana we have our Country Representative who is supported by a Community Liaison Manager and a Building Projects Manager as well as head teachers, community elders and leaders of partner organisations. If, after your expedition, you would like to get involved please be assured that you would be most welcome! There is always plenty to do, and everyone has something to offer.
