Dominic is an international development professional with six years’ experience working
as a consultant and project manager in Africa. He co-founded the Sabre Charitable Trust
and now works as the Development Director, ensuring that all of the programmes and
projects that are supported are ethical and sustainable. He recognises the paramount
importance of community involvement to ensure the creation of a sense of ownership and
guarantees that the time, money and efforts of volunteers and donors is used in the most
effective and beneficial ways.
Candice Sainsbury – Development Advisor & Trustee
An experienced international development profession, Candice brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her trusteeship with the Sabre Trust. Having worked as a senior advisor and acting Country Director for a number of international programmes in Cambodia, Candice is well placed to advise the charity's directors on community engagement, programme management and donor policy. Additionally, in her current professional capacity, Candice is working with children's services in the UK, a role that has considerable relevance to the Sabre Trust's work on School and Community Healthcare.
Tabitha Symonds – Volunteer Programme Advisor & Trustee
Tabitha has worked for more than a decade in the travel industry and is an experienced independent traveller. She has worked in the adventure travel industry, for a prominent environmental charity and for one of the UK's and US's leading adventure travel, gap year and volunteer organisations. Tabitha is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has travelled extensively, particularly in Latin America and Africa, where she has organised and run her own charity expeditions.
Chris Counihan – Education Consultant & Trustee
Chris is currently studying child development and young pathways at Newcastle which will either go into a primary teaching/cognitive science career. He has a real passion for the creative learner, observing movements and strategies of how practitioners can tailor educational approaches for children's creative needs.
He has been involved with the Primary Programme as offered by Young Enterprise North East. The programme targets Primary Schools' "grey areas" of the National Curriculum, such as citizenship, social, emotional involvement.
He also worked as a volunteer in Ghana supporting Sabre's literacy assessments and advising teachers of group and classroom structure to make teaching more manageable through inclusive practice and ability targeting.
Moyra Zaman – Partnership Advisor & Trustee
Moyra has worked in the education system for over 30 years in Europe and Africa. Her special interest in Africa began after an overland expedition led her across the Sahara desert to Nigeria where she spent two years working in a remote village school. Her interest in Cultural learning and development has evolved as she is responsible for a variety of partnership links, fundraising events and international awareness programmes in her current school.
In the UK this team is supported by an extensive network of ex-volunteers, partner schools,
and the volunteer agencies. In Ghana, all of the SCT projects are carried out in
collaboration with the communities that the charity supports and in full consultation with
the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Education Directorate.

Aubrey is passionate about ethical sustainable development and is driven to awaken
young people and adults to the rewarding opportunities in Ghana to practically help poor
rural communities reach their educational and economic potential. By offering alternative
ways of taking a holiday, sabbatical or career break, Sabre Charitable Trust promotes
ethical volunteering for all ages. Aubrey is responsible for the liaison between the various
organisations involved, day-to-day management of the SCT in Ghana and he also acts as
the Expedition Director for the Ghana Project Expeditions.

Esther is the most infectious and lovely Ghanaian woman anyone will ever meet. You will
never have experienced real hospitality in your life before; because in Eshter’s hands,
hospitality reaches a different level of genuine care, consideration and desire to make
volunteers’ time in Ghana happy in every way. Esther is not only warm, enthusiastic and
helpful, she is a successful, qualified Primary Teacher and her liaison role covers the
teaching placement and all volunteer living requirements. She is a professional, devoted
Ghanaian who supports rural education development and the involvement of SCT to
engage in change interventions that are desired and driven by the communities
themselves.
