Esther get married

25 Jun 2008

As of 7 June 2008 Ms Esther Ghanney will now be known as Mrs Esther Richardson. The lucky man is Mr Habakuk Richardson, a pastor from Esther's hometown of Winneba. Over 400 guests filled the church in Winneba with more packing doorways and spilling through windows.

We were all tears and sweat watching Esther walk down the aisle looking absolutely stunning and on top of the world. After she’d been given away by her uncle, Esther and Habakuk's vows were hailed with hundreds of amen's from an exuberant crowd jumping about. It was a most incredible service full of hymns sung by a band on a mega PA system, vibrant sermons, and emotional speeches.

Apart from gaining a husband, the best part of the service, knowing Esther would have been the 'gifts table'. There was an actual queue to give presents while each gift was logged. As a thank you we got a Habakuk and Esther mug (I got two because I queued twice). We were reminded that it was rainy season afterwards but that didn't effect the newlyweds as they were whisked off in a Nissan Patrol complete with ribbon and tinted windows.

The reception was held at the University of Winneba. Aggie from Brenu did the catering and it's a good job she does big portions because half of Ghana turned up. We had some more speeches and music hosted by an energetic MC and I got to pop champagne (alcohol free). Mr and Mrs Richardson then cut the cake in front of a heap of paparazzi and then the partying began.

In a way it was hard to watch Esther getting married. She’s been a best friend, a mother and a sister to us all and I think I selfishly had her married off to Sabre in my head. But they looked so happy together that it was impossible to be anything but delighted for her. In her own words ‘Truly, I am so happy you just cannot believe it’.
