A quick summary of our week is as follows! Monday – Thursday worked on levelling final classroom. 25 shovel loads per barrel and 125 barrow loads. Rain stopped play on one day and the soil was too wet to move on the other day. Found some snake eggs in the ground, but thankfully no snakes! By Friday we had filled and levelled the whole veranda - an area of 5 x 30ft. We played with the children during the break times.
There have been no teachers in school recently due to the National Identification Programme (all teachers have been drafted in work on the scheme as they are the educated ones and can understand the programme.)
We went to Kakum, Becky got to the top of the walk and suddenly felt ill, her sugar levels dropped and after she felt faint she walked back down to the bottom with Osman having not been on the walkway at all. While she waited at the bottom she was helped out by a friendly American with ginger hair who kindly gave her some medication that allowed her to recover and wait quietly for the others to return. Natalie and Nicky had a great walk on the canopy.
Everyone then went to Hans Cottage for lunch and a spot of crocodile stroking! At the end of the day we all arrived back at Brenu in time for the Miss Brenu Competition that was actually a HUGE dance off with popcorn! The dance off was brought to an unexpected end because of a huge thunderstorm. However, Ghanaians will dance through anything at anytime! We know this because we are sometimes woken by bongo playing very early in the morning, even the goats join in! |
