Arrival in Ghana Start dates for volunteering are the first Sunday of each month. You will be met by a local staff member at the Meeting Point (a guesthouse in Accra) and be transported to the project site; a journey of approximately 3 to 4hours.
Flight arrival times Please ensure that your flight arrives on the Saturday preceding your placement start date. Most flights from the UK arrive in the evening which is why all volunteers spend their first night in Accra and are then transfered to the project on the Sunday morning. Flights from the USA tend to arrive in the early morning, so it is perfectly possible for you to arrive on Sunday morning and get to the meeting point in good time. We will organise for you to be met at the airport and taken to the guesthouse in Accra. If your flight gets in on any day other than the Saturday preceding your placement you will need to make alternative arrangements for getting to your project. We can advise and book good taxi drivers for you but you will need to pay the extra cost.
Funding:
Your Placement fee consists of 2 payments which you will need to fundraise for:
- The Registration Fee (£325) paid in the UK covers planning and preparation;
- The In-country Fee (£100 per week of your stay) paid in Ghana covers our costs related to supporting you as well as donations to the projects.
The £325 is required with your application form and the In-country Fee is paid on arrival in Ghana.
