The Bus Run

Overview

A five-week road-trip from Morocco to Ghana with a purpose. This is no ordinary overland expedition: the Bus Run combines real adventure with delivering much needed resources to rural communities in Ghana. Education resources will be on board and distributed upon arrival in Ghana amongst the communities we work with. The vehicle itself will also play a vital role in allowing the schools in these communities to access ICT and sound recording equipment in support of school partnership links, as it will be converted into the 'Techno Truck' on arrival.

The journey itself is spectacular and involves over 3,000 miles of driving. Some of the roads are good, others terrible and in some places there are none. Taking in the Atlas mountains of Morocco to the sands of the Sahara, the bustling markets of Mali through to the fabled town of Timbuktu, and an opportunity to explore the cultural heritage of the Dogon country, Mopti and the river Niger, culminating with the lush rainforests of Ghana and its empty palm fringed beaches. The scenery is as diverse and amazing as the cultures contained within. You won’t just see it from behind glass either, as we get up close and personal with each country and its people along the way. From shopping in local markets to seeing some of the best sights West Africa has to offer, we promise you a truly memorable and exciting experience all in the name of charity.

We run these trips annually as a cost-effective means of transporting donated resources from the UK to Ghana. There is a chronic lack of resources in rural schools in Ghana and through this initiative we can at least help to combat this problem, as well as channelling all income from the trip into our projects there. On arrival in Ghana, you will have the opportunity to volunteer on one of our community school projects for as long as you are able; we recommend a minimum of three weeks, however, we’d much rather you stayed for longer - and we can guarantee that once you’re there you won’t want to leave!

The trip thrives on the full ‘get your hands dirty’ involvement of everyone on board. We firmly believe in having fun and getting the most out of whatever we do. The old addage about the more you put in the more you get out is never truer. It's a philosophy we subscribe to which means that we’ll be more than happy to try anything once, from eating camel to sand surfing. Some things are meant to be repeated and others not, but if you’re game we are... We won’t force you to do anything you don’t want to but we will present opportunities to try new things. Equally if you want to teach us something new, like a great way to cook lunch using nothing but the sun and the shoes on your feet then we’re keen to learn. So if you’re looking for an experience filled with fun, adventure and enthusiasm that is designed to make a difference and have an impact, then look no further.
