For the Love of the Game - Football

Launched in January 2008 to coincide with the African Cup of Nations in Ghana, our “for the love of the game” programme is working to improve school attendance amongst primary and junior secondary pupils by offering enhanced football coaching and ensuring that schools have sufficient sports equipment to meet their needs.

The documents below reflect the progress of the programme to date – significant gains have already been achieved with the delivery of football

coaching training to 48 sports and PE teachers from 39 schools, and the donation of coaching packs including coach's manuals, coaching equipment and 210 footballs.

The footballs were provided by the Great Football Giveaway , a fantastic UK charity set up purely to get sports equipment direct into the hands (or feet) of some of the world's most disadvantaged kids.

Under Phase 3 of the programme, we are actively seeking qualified coaches to support football coaches in primary and junior secondary schools throughout the KEEA district. If you have a minimum of UK Football Association Level 1 or US NSCAA State Level coaching accreditation (or equivalent) and would like to volunteer your skills in Ghana , please apply here.

As a result of the early success of the “for the love of the game” football project, we have been asked by the District Education Director to expand our support into the other main sports practised in Ghanaian schools – click on the links for Netball, Volleyball and Athletics to find out more.
