Research and Development of Infrastructure

Many rural schools in Ghana suffer from grossly inadequate or dilapidated school buildings. Through our infrastructure improvements projects, the Sabre Trust is working to address this situation in partnership and consultation with the District Education Office.

The Ghanaian government is funding an extensive school building programme, however demand for improved buildings far outstrips the capacity of this programme. In the KEEA District, our efforts are helping to improve facilities in schools not fortunate enough to be included in the government programme.

It is not always necessary to build new school buildings, and with the hard work of our volunteers we have also refurbished a number of
existing classrooms, turning them into colourful and interactive learning environments.

As an environmentally aware organisation, we are very interested in trialling building solutions which have minimal impact on the environment. Sustainable energy sources and renewable building materials can only enhance conventional building techniques.
