The construction placement and masterclass programme offers hands-on experience on either a specific
project, or on a range of smaller building sites. The word construction, is a loose term used to mean; bricklaying,
repair and maintenance work which can include block making and cement mixing to repairing broken steps, terraces,
window and door facias. When you are involved with a construction project you maybe asked to plan the budget for
small repair projects and you may have to source and collect building materials such as sand, cement, blocks, roofing
sheets, timber and paint.
We have had many volunteers, of all ages, shapes and sizes, who have successfully assisted with a whole range of
building projects. Everyone has found the building experience very satisfying whether it is; mending broken steps,
painting toilet blocks, re-roofing old classrooms, painting classrooms, building shelves for a library, digging
foundations, clearing scrub land for a new building project, bricklaying, making blocks, levelling cement floors
or building a kindergarten thatched shelter.
Working on construction projects is fun, motivating and rewarding because at the end of all the effort
there is tangible progress. From derelict to useable, from no building to a building, from dull and unhygienice to
nice and habitable!
When you work on any of our building projects you work with our Construction Manager who will teach and guide you
through each stage of the process. The community people will often be involved with the building project and assist
on their non-farm day. Volunteers have loved this practical experience and have found a new lease of life from their
involvement in team projects.
