The travel and tourism programme provides students with the opportunity to view eco-tourism, responsible
and sustainable development volunteer tourism at first hand. The insights this opportunity provides will broaden the
range of travel experiences for young adults who want to develop a career in tourism. The programme will include main
stream tourist sites and a varied and alternative itinery of community based projects, rain forests, monkey, hippo
and butterfly sanctuaries and sacred groves that are the spiritual homes of some tribes.
The plan will be developed with the Travel and Tourism Principal to meet the needs and interests of students. The
Ghana experience will introduce students to bespoke, niche holiday positioning; it will cover little known areas of
the country that are rich in culture and exciting to explore. The travel plan can include as many or as few of the
following sites, which embrace stunning beaches, rain forests, stilt villages, community projects, animal welfare,
waterfalls, slave castles, museums and markets:
- Nzulezu Stilt Village in the middle of Lake Tadane
- Bobiri Forest and Butterfly Reserve with monkeys, birds and butterflies
- Baobeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary
- Mole National Park to see elephants, antelope, warthogs, baboons and crocodiles
- Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary
- Xavi Bird Sanctuary for exotic bird life and beautiful lagoon explored in pirogues
- Wli Water Falls and conservation area
- Green Turtle conservation centre
- Sirigu Traditional Arts Centre displays potters, basket weaving and symbolic wall decorations
- Larabanga to understand the history of the oldest mud mosque in Ghana
