This unique travel adventure will embrace the best of Ghana’s eco-tourist sites; at the communities, Elders or the
spokesperson will talk to the group about how and why they have involved themselves with tourism. Students can ask
what benefits the community receives from the increased exposure of their culture to the outside world? How do they
see their future evolving? Will it stay the same or change? How important is tourism to their economy and what
impacts does it have? What measures do the community take to protect their culture and heritage? All the answers
you seek can be asked of the tour guides and tourism officials.
Ghana’s diverse attractions, from palm-fringed beaches in the south, through the tropical jungles up to the northern
savannah plains will expose students to the myriad of fascinating traditional tribal cultures, exotic wildlife,
the development of sustainable conservation projects and the majesty of virgin rain forests. As part of the tour,
students can also spend three to five days working on a village project to experience the pleasure of helping
within a rural community and doing something worthwhile. This could be repairing and painting derelict classrooms,
helping in the orphanage or digging foundations for a new kindergarten school. This then covers the complete
alternative travellers spectrum, of volunteering, responsible tourism, conservation and aspects of more traditional
package holiday visits of forts, castles, museums and beaches. |
