The sports that are lesser known, or even unknown to rural school children are; hockey, cricket,
rugby, tennis, badminton, rounders, basketball and martial arts. However, this is not to say students cannot
teach pupils these sports. New sports are welcomed by the Education Directorate and most of the equipment
required for the above mentioned sports are available from Sabre Charitable Trust. The Trust has been delivering
the sports equipment to their resource centre, waiting for trained coaches and trainee coaches to be available to
teach the teachers the new sports. This is a golden opportunity to work with teachers and train them in all the
basic methods associated with a new sport. Students and teachers can work together to write a training manual
with safety aspects, care of equipment, training sessions, specific skill techniques, sequential coaching plans,
rules and regulations, numbers of people in a team, reserves and match times.
Students can work in teams with a particular sport and school. At the end of the four week coaching course the
teams can organise a sport(s) event. The programme is great fun and enables students to practice what they have
learned in the UK on a daily basis. The teachers and students will be receptive to your ideas and the enjoyment
comes when you are all learning something from each other. Team games are all about bonding, building trust and
a good spirit; this hands-on experience will leave you with memories that will last you a lifetime. |
