Community Links
|
|
|
The communities served by both partner schools are actively involved in setting up and maintaining a partnership
which addresses lifelong learning and focuses on solidarity rather than sponsorship. The link could be established through contacts
with local faith groups or charities, or the enlargement of an existing school partnership into the wider community.
Main benefits:
- A community link can prove to be the most lasting type of partnership
- A committee to support the partnership can bring together representatives from all areas of the community, from staff, governors and parents to local business and administration. This can spread the workload, and enable schools to concentrate on specifically educational aims and outcomes.
- It can help to ensure that the partnership achieves its wider objectives, has a broad base and will be sustainable.
- It can provide access to additional sources of practical, moral and even financial support. Pupil visits can add an extra dimension to any partnership activities.
Issues to consider:
- It means additional work and more complicated lines of communication
- It can raise questions about priorities and the use of resources that the partner schools will need to address with tact
- Fundraising should be separated from the educational activities, ensuring that there is no imbalance between school partners.
