Exchanges & Visits
|
|
|
Groups of young people from the partner schools visit each other for an agreed programme
of social, educational and cultural activities.
Main benefits:
- Pupil visits bring great rewards, both personally and educationally
- They can add an extra and immediate dimension to any partnership activities.
Issues to consider:
- They can be expensive, and external funding can be difficult to secure
- Depending on the location of your partner country, if the visits are to be reciprocal, the UK school may have to raise funds for both legs of the exchange
- The participants need to be properly briefed to prepare them for any social, cultural, health and economic realities they might face
- A great deal of preparation needs to be undertaken to ensure that full value is gained from the visit
- They absorb a lot of energy and time that could otherwise be channelled into activities that directly involve more pupils and teachers
Pupil visits should not be seen as the necessary culmination of a partnership, nor as a mark of the quality of what is achieved.
